Terry Roberts becomes the first Stingray to sign with an NBA affiliate

The Suffolk County Stingrays continue to make history in the season in which they christened their franchise. Terry Roberts recently became the first Stingray to go from the ABA to the NBA G League as he signed with the Brooklyn Nets affiliate, the Long Island Nets during the Stingrays inaugural 2024-25 campaign. Roberts is a native of North Amityville and has prospered at the collegiate and professional basketball level.

The long islander spent his high school years ballin’ at Believe Prep in Rock Hill, South Carolina then went to Florida Southwestern State College for two years. In his freshman year in 2019-20 he played in 29 games starting three with a 39.1 field goal percentage and a 30.3 three-point percentage and in his sophomore year in 2020-2021 the Believe Prep alumni played in 23 contests starting 19 averaging 29.3 minutes per game and 15 PPG.

Roberts transferred to Bradley the following year (2021-22) playing and starting in 31 games and averaged 28.8 minutes per game tallying 893 minutes that season, notched 173 field goals with a .454 percentage, 40 three-pointers with a .345 percentage, was .700 at the free throw line, had 152 total rebounds (4.9 average), led the league in assists with 128 also a league leading 4.1 assists average, 49 steals, seventeen blocks, 449 total points (14.5) PPG.

The subsequent season Roberts transferred to University of Georgia to play for the Bulldogs in Athens, GA. In his senior year at Georgia in 2022-23, the North Amityville native played 29 games (26 starts), averaged 30.1 minutes tallying 872, registered 139 field goals and 38 three pointers, was .756 from the free throw line going 68 out of 90, summated an average of 3.8 total rebounds (111 total) and four assists (116 total), 44 steals, five blocks, and 13.2 PPG with 384 total points during the campaign.

In the 2023 NBA draft Roberts was signed undrafted by the Long Island Nets and last season he played in nineteen games and in two starts averaged 18.6 minutes per game, three total rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 7.2 PPG.

Terry played the first couple games for the Suffolk County Stingrays in their inaugural 2024-25 season then took his talents back to the Long Island Nets going from 631 territory to 516 territory to play at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale as he continues to chase his dream of playing in the NBA.

This year, thus far with the Long Island Nets he has played in two contests and averages 15.9 minutes per game, is 100% at the free throw line, and averages 2.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
